Welcome To Diani Municipality

Formed in 2019

Diani Municipality was formed through grant of a municipal charter. Its jurisdiction covers the area between Magandia on the North and Gazi on the South. Westwards the municipality extends to Vinuni and follows the Indian Ocean coastline to the East and includes Chale Island. The municipality is governed by a Board in line with the provisions of the Urban Areas and Cities Act, 2011.

The Municipality is endowed with rich aquifers in Tiwi, Msambweni and Diani alongside two permanent rivers traversing the Municipality namely, Mkurumudzi and Mwachema rivers that drain at the Indian Ocean. This offers adequate water supply for commercial and domestic utility.

Diani is characterized by warm seas and richly diverse marine life consisting of beautiful coral reefs, turtle nests, mangrove forests, sea weeds, marine parks and magical Chale Island that can be experienced through snorkelling, scuba diving or joining a boat safari. Dolphins, sharks, sea turtles, and whales are often spotted in the deep-blues off the Kenyan coast.

As a Municipality, Diani has the mandate of performing the following functions within its area of jurisdiction

    Promotion, regulation and provision of refuse collection and solid waste management services

    Construction and maintenance of urban roads and associated infrastructure

    Drainage and flood controls

    Construction and maintenance of storm drainage and flood controls

    Walkways and non-motorized transport infrastructure

    Construction and maintenance of walkways and other non-motorized transport infrastructure;
